Dorm Life Diaries: A New Home Away From Home

1 December 2024 - Student Student Voices - The idea of living with someone who isn’t my family never struck me as interesting. Truly. My junior high school self wouldn’t have believed it if someone had told her that she’d live in a dorm during high school. But here I am now, at Rushd, living peacefully and happily with my roommates. All I can say is, it’s waaaay better than I ever imagined.

My roommates have become a big part of my life. I see them when I wake up, and they’re the last people I bid goodnight to before drifting off to sleep. They’re my support system now that I can’t be with my family 24/7. They make dorm life something I’ll cherish for my whole life. After a year of living here, I even think that being in a dorm, surrounded by supportive friends, is better than being at home.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I love my family, and I enjoyed living with them. But there’s one major difference I’ve noticed between living in a dorm and being at home: I’m definitely more productive here. Whether it’s studying academics or doing physical exercises, the constant sight of my friends studying is surprisingly motivating.

In hindsight, I can confidently say that living in a dorm is something everyone should try at least once in their lifetime.
